Desert Animals



The Desert Tortoise:

Habitat:Desert tortoises usually live in sandy,gravelly deserts in North America.
Major Predators: Desert tortoises only have one major predator and thats the raven.
Primary Food Source: Their primary food sources are herbs,grasses,some shrubs,and new growth of cacti and their flowers.


The Gila Monster:

Habitat:Gila Monsters live in semiarid regions,sandy sails with shrubs
Major Predators:Gilas do not have predators, they are the predator.
Primary Food Source: Small mammals and birds eggs.

The Javelina:

Javelinas live in the deserts of South and Central America.
Major Predators: The major predators of a javelina are coyotes, bobcats, wild dogs, pumas, and jaguars.
Primary Food Source: Javelinas feed on roots, fruits, and insects.

The Great Horned Owl

Major Predators:The great horned owl does not have that many predators
Primary Food Source:The Great Horned Owl preys on many little critters such as, cottontail rabbits, squirrels, shrews, jackrabbits, muskrats, mice, and even other owls.



The Llama

Major Predators:Major predators of a llama are wolves, coyotes, domestic dogs, and wild dogs.
Primary Food Source:Llamas eat various types of low shrubs.


The Kangaroo Rat

Major Predators: The major predators of a kangaroo rat are rattlesnakes, owls, bobcats, foxes, badgers, and coyotes.
Primary Food Source: Kangaroo rats mostly feed on seeds from a variety of desert plants.
